Dakota-Glen Canyon Aquifer
Setting
The Dakota-Glen Canyon aquifer encompasses most of the Colorado Plateaus Aquifer region. It covers large portions of Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. Cretaceous to Triassic rocks are the rocks that the aquifer is comprised of.
Recharge
The Dakota Aquifer has little data concerning where the water is recharging from. Because of this only the Northeastern portion of the aquifer is able to define areas of recharge. These area's include the Southeastern portion of Uncompahgre Uplift, The Nothern side of the Unita Basin, as well as the eastern portion of the Piceance Basin. The Glen Canyon Aquifer is defined as much of the northern part of the system. With recharge taking place in the San Rafeal Swell, Circle Cliffs Uplift, the Four Corners Platform, Uncompahgre Uplift, Paradox Basin, the Piceance Basin, and Unita Basins.
Discharge
The water from the Dakota Aquifer is discharged into the Colorado, Gunnison, and White rivers, while the Water from the Glen Canyon Aquifer flow towards the Green, Colorado, Dolores, and San Juan Rivers
