The Increasing Risks of Induced Seismicity as a Consequence of the Natural Gas Extraction Process Hydro-Fracturing:
We know induced seismicity is a consequence of processes in hydro-fracture drilling, this is no longer a matter of debate, as well as a general consensus among experts that the levels of induced seismicity are currently inconsequential in their magnitude and pose a low risk to any damages normally associated with seismic events, but have cautioned that as production continues to increase the seismic events can grow in severity.
For this portion, we will be discussing what levels of increased risk has been predicted as well as what geological considerations have been made to mitigate the predicted increase in seismic event magnitude.
